Making Multiples: Screen Printing & Book-Making for the Art Room

At the Detroit Institute of Arts

Art teachers will learn alternative, non-darkroom methods to make screens for screen printing while making an edition of small books. Students will explore a simple book-making method that can be applied to many projects, especially when there is a need to make multiples (editions, zines, etc). Students will work in small groups to create screen printed work both individually and collaboratively.

Outcomes:

  • Learn about alternative screen printing equipment, process, and techniques

  • Leave with project ideas for making books and multiples in the classroom

  • Create printed work individually and collaboratively through one project

  • Learn more about screen printing techniques and screen printing’s role in art history through a short discussion in the “From Camelot to Kent State: Pop Art, 1960-1975” exhibit
